The Richest Man in Metropolis is My Backer by Dream Searcher

Chapter 13

Chapter 13
Chapter 13
The nurse frowned. “You’ve been taking sleeping pills lately?”
“To help me sleep, yes. I took two pills.” I glanced at the clock in the ER. “It was about four hours ago, I believe.”
The nurse shook her head. “Ah, that won’t do. You won’t pass the test.”
I shrugged, much to their dismay. “Sorry, guys. This time, It’s not about my reluctance. I really can’t help.”
Harry stomped his foot. “You are playing games with us, Taylor! Why didn’t you just say you can’t donate your stupid blood
outright?!”
“Well, Edward basically abducted me from home before I could even make sense of this whole thing,” I replied innocently,
blinking.
“You!” Edward growled, glaring at me.
Seeing their exasperated faces filled me with a petty sense of satisfaction.
Just then, the ER door swung open.
“We’re running low on blood supplies!” the nurse announced. “Have you found a donor yet?”
Cameron’s knees seemed to buckle as she shoved Harry forward. “Go and donate yours already! Our daughter is dying!”
Harry, ever the coward, could only protest weakly as Cameron began pounding his back. Resigned, he followed the
nurse.
Edward rolled up his sleeves. “My blood type is a match, too. Use mine!”
Whoa. Love sure was noble, huh?
“Yeah, the blood circulating in your body is basically mine anyway! It’ll be like I donated it myself,” I teased.

Edward exchanged a sharp glance with Cameron while I put on my best matter–of–fact expression. Without a word, he followed
the nurse.
I yawned, already preparing to leave.
However, Cameron wasn’t having it.
“You’re staying, twerp. You’re going to be here until she’s safe!” she barked.
I sneered. “Why? Am I supposed to drop dead if she doesn’t make it through today?”
“If you step outside, I guarantee you’ll never see your mom s shares ever again!”
I was annoyed, but then again, wouldn’t it be a little entertaining to witness the moment Maddison was pronounced dead?
The sleeping pills were still working their magic, though. I yawned again non–stop, growing sleepier by the second.
After scanning the hallway to make sure no one would need it, I lay down on a bench outside the ER and fell asleep.
I could vaguely hear Cameron’s angry ranting as I drifted off. She was probably livid that I could sleep soundly while her
daughter’s life hung by a thread.

I ignored her, though. It wasn’t my idea to stay when I was dead tired. She had demanded it.

Maddison survived..
By morning, I stretched and rose from the bench, ready to leave. Edward had been taken to a ward after experiencing severe
vertigo from donating blood.
He had dragged me there, but I wasn’t about to rely on him to take me home–not that I wanted him to, anyway.
I stepped outside the hospital, extended my hand, and began to hail a cab when the driver’s window of a nearby Porsche
Cayenne rolled down.

A stunning, youthful face peered out. “Hey, beautiful. Need a ride?”
I smiled politely, momentarily caught off guard. “Uh, yeah?”
She grinned brightly. “Get in. I’ll drive.”
I eyed the car skeptically. “Drive me? In your Porsche? What kind of Uber driver does that?”
“My kind of Uber drivers, duh. My family doesn’t give me an allowance, so these gigs are all I’ve got. Welcome aboard! You’ll be
my first customer today.”
She didn’t seem to be joking–and I was still bone–tired.
Sleeping on a hospital bench all night hadn’t done much to counteract the lingering effects of the sleeping pills. All I wanted was
to get home.
Well, it seemed even the rich and privileged like to dabble in the working class from time to time. Why not take her up on the
offer?
Smiling, I opened the passenger door and climbed in.
