Chapter 265
Yvan was amused by Josephine's expression. Just as they reached an intersection, a car suddenly ran a red light and sped toward them.
His heart nearly stopped. Quickly, he slammed on the brakes and jerked the wheel, barely dodging the crash. The car scraped past them, missing them by mere inches.
Cold sweat broke out across his back as he stared blankly ahead. He couldn't wrap his head around what had just happened.
Josephine was oblivious to the near accident. She had only been startled by the sudden jolt of the brakes.
She turned and saw Yvan's pale and shaken face. Then, she burst into laughter.
"You're laughing? If you hadn't been pouting like that, I wouldn't have nearly died!" he exclaimed.
Yvan lifted his hand as if to teach her a lesson. But in the end, he had no idea what to do. He couldn't hit her or yell at her. So, instead, he messed up her hair in frustration.
Josephine yelped and tried to shield her head. The pair wrestled over her hair until her once neat locks turned into a complete mess.
She shot him an exasperated glare as she smoothed her hair with her fingers. Her pout appeared again.
Seeing his smile return, she added, "That woman said I'd only be working as an assistant director. Two months, and I'd get ten thousand dollars."
He restarted the car and put on a fake smile. "Ten thousand dollars for two months? Then I might as well just book you for a year."
Despite Yvan's doubt, Josephine went anyway.
Before she left, she knocked on Yvan's door to let him know.
To her surprise, a fully dressed Yvan opened the door. He had dark circles under his eyes.
"Why are you up so early?" she asked.
"I'm driving you there."
He hadn't slept all night. She knew he was worried about her.
Josephine was young, inexperienced, and alone in a foreign country. She was practically a scammer's dream target. Yvan couldn't shake his concern for her away.
On the way there, he glanced over
and saw her biting her lip. She was clearly nervous. Amused, he pointed

the floor near her feet and said, "Is
that a cockroach?" Content belongs to Novelxo.org
Josphine looked down but saw nothing. "Where?" she asked calmly.
Yvan stared at her. "You're not scared of cockroaches?"
She gave him a puzzled look. "What's there to be scared of?"
She had lived abroad alone since she was 16 years old. She had long since mastered the art of catching bugs with her bare hands.

"Wow. Respect," Yvan replied.
When they reached the outskirts of Waverton, Yvan struggled to find the location her contact had described.
Just as he was about to ask Josephine to check again, he spotted four people walking toward them.
Josephine tensed up and gripped her seatbelt. "That's the director and their team!"
Yvan looked over and saw three women and a man. They seemed professional and well-mannered. His tension eased immediately.

"Alright! I'm going!"
Before he could respond, she had already bolted from the car.
Yvan sighed and got out as well. He watched as Josephine approached one of the women. Her movements were tense and formal as she greeted them.
That brat was all grown up. She was ready to set off on her own.
He lit a cigarette and turned away, exhaling a slow stream of smoke as he gazed up
at the sky.
Back then, he had no idea that Josephine would become a renowned film director.
And that he would be the one to walk away from her.
