It was clear that Cameron had been stewing in her rage for a long time, and I had called just when she needed someone to lash
out at
“I called Edward, not her. She was the one nosy enough to pick it up!” I protested. “If this is some sort of test from God, ma’am,
you’ve been falling Him for an eternity. No wonder your daughter’s never gotten any better!” “Fuck you, Taylor!” Cameron
shrieked, her voice cracking at one point. “You better pray you never fall sick!”
I was done with this argument, so I returned to the point. “didn’t even mean to talk to her. Edward left his phone in her room-”
“He’s your brother–in–law now! How could you even think of calling him after he married your sister?! Why couldn’t you just send
a messenger?
“I bet you’re just trying to win him back with your disgusting, slutty schemes! Maddie was smart enough to figure that out!”
Cameron roared.
I was trying to explain things for her benefit, and this was the response I got?! My words twisted into some fabricated nonsense?!
The rage I had managed to suppress flared back to life. I could feel a headache pounding behind my eyes.
“Then be the messenger to your darling son–in–law, woman–I’m standing outside the damn Clerk’s Office right now, and it’s time
for our damn appointment for our bloody divorce.
“If he doesn’t show up, your precious little Maddie will stay a mistress and a side–piece for the rest of her miserable life!” I
taunted.
Maybe my threat worked. Ten minutes later, Edward called
“I didn’t mean to stand you up, Tay. I’m out of town today, he explained, his tone sincere.

I didn’t believe him. I knew the Kennedy Corporation was massive, but he was the CEO.
Since when did a CEO have to work? He had a team of C–suite executives and managers. Any of them could’ve taken his place
if he’d told them to!
Edward seized on my silence, trying again to appeal to my emotions. “Tay, we have real feelings for each other, don’t we? Can’t
we just talk about this instead of acting on impulse?”
I wasn’t convinced.
“Spare me with this bullshit, Edward. We’re never getting back together–this isn’t some impulse,” I replied. firmly.
He paused, then said, “Even if we go through with the divorce, we still need to discuss how to div You should wait until I’m back
to talk about this.”
ur assets.
“What’s there to discuss? It’s just a villa. I can give it to you even. You just have to pay for the interior and furniture.”
He had bought the villa I was living in under both our names, but I was the one who had chosen the furniture and decorations. I
had spent all my savings on it.
The villa had been supposed to be the place where our life began–together.
We had both poured our money and hearts into it. Back then, it had felt blissful to work on a project with the

person you loved.
Now? All I felt was regret.
“If I take the villa, where will you stay? You can’t go back to your family!”
“That’s my business, Edward. Not yours. I could end up sleeping on the street, and it still wouldn’t concern you,” I retorted.

“Tay, don’t make rash decisions. I can’t let you sleep on the street! I don’t want the villa. You can have it. We’ll transfer ownership
when we both have the time,” he offered.
“Fine. But I’ll pay you half the house’s price. Just not right now.”
I didn’t have the money for that at the moment!
Edward sounded hurt, almost helpless. “Do you really want to do this, Tay? It’s a gift. You don’t need to pay. How could I ask you
to pay when you’re already in a bind?”
The hurt in his voice made my eyes sting. It almost felt like he still cared for me.
