The Richest Man in Metropolis is My Backer by Dream Searcher

Chapter 18

Chapter 18
Jean sneered. “You know what I think? I think she just wanted to steal your man at first. But she bought into her own bullshit so
much, she ended up falling in love for real,
I was too stunned to even comment.
Jean continued. “Edward might act like he doesn’t believe me, but I know he’s got seeds of doubt inside him. They’re gonna get
into a fight real soon, Tay–Tay, mark my words.
“Aunt Patricia told me that treating cancer is grueling, and Maddison lashed out at people every day. The members of her
treatment team keep changing because of it, and still, no one can handle her.
“How much do you think Edward loves her and vice versa? Can they really weather this challenge together?
“Hard to believe it, man. I don’t even think those two really love each other!”
I nodded slowly. “Now I see why Edward showed up and tried to be nice to me.”
He must have been secretly sick of Maddison’s abuse and was starting to miss all the good things I had done for him.
Jean shot me a severe look. “I swear, Tay–Tay, if you’re getting back together with him, I’m gonna break up with you!”
“Hell no! I’m not a brainless simp, Jeannie!”
I was already swamped with the challenges my business was facing. How was I supposed to find the time for romance? And
really–with a guy who betrayed me? Not a chance!
Jean seemed to know what I was really worried about. “Don’t worry about the Internet, Tay. I’ve found someone to handle this.
Things will return to normal in two days, guaranteed.”
“Really?!” I cried out in pleasant surprise. “Whose help did you get?”
“You don’t know them anyway. Besides, the main point is that things will die down for sure.”
I was too exhausted from being the Internet’s most hated person these days to pry further. “If you need more funding, just let me
know.”

“Of course! Girl, I’m your errand girl, not your daddy,” she quipped. 1
“I’m so glad to have you, Jeannie.”
We might not be biological sisters, but what we shared was better than any sisterly bond I could imagine.
Jean was not kidding.
Whoever she got help from was really good.
Two days later, virtually no one was talking about me anymore–let alone attacking me.
The entertainment industry was suddenly aflame with scandal after scandal, drawing the Internet’s attention elsewhere.
As thanks, I gifted Jean some pieces from our latest collection.
Then, another surprise hit me: being internet–famous had brought a flood of new customers.

People who had initially decided to stir up trouble at our flagship store saw our items and changed their minds. Our quality and
design–priced more affordably than the most premium luxury houses abroad–converted them into fans. Many of them even
promoted our fashion items to others.
Everything was selling–bags, shoes, and accessories too.
I couldn’t help but laugh as I listened to the sales report.
It felt like things had actually gotten better since that shitstain of a man left.
Maybe he was the bane of my life. He must have been blocking all of these positive vibes from me all along!
Someone knocked on my door.

A very excited Cherry poked her head in. “Tay! You’re gonna love this!”
My eyes lit up. “Ooh, more good news, hmm?”
She handed me a piece of paper. “The Kenways‘ butler just called. Apparently, Madame Lisbeth Kenway will be celebrating her
60th birthday next month, and they’d like you to tailor something special for her.
“Should you agree to the request, just call this number and make an appointment. Their driver will pick you up.”
blinked in surprise. “Sorry, who?”
