The Richest Man in Metropolis is My Backer by Dream Searcher

Chapter 16

Chapter 16
I did not even know what to say. Hence, I circled my desk and went out the door.
Edward chased after me. “I
to you can’t find it in your heart to forgive me just yet, Tay, but ours is a six–year
relationship! Love like this can’t die just like that. You’re the one I love, Tay. Nothing will change that!

“But Maddie... I’ve watched grow up! She’s always been a docile, timid girl. And now her disease is exacerbating her inferior
complex.
“She’s like a little sister to me–I can’t just leave her to languish in this state!”
I lost my temper. He was blocking my path again!
“What the hell is your problem, Edward?! I’m not stopping you from being her simp, so why are you telling me all this?! Don’t you
think I’ve been pestered enough?!”
He held onto my arm and tried to calm me down. “I know you’ve been frustrated and in a bad mood lately. I’m here to help with
that.”
“You? Help me?” I scoffed and shoved him away. “How? Are you going to fight those internet trolls on my behalf?

He shook his head and said matter–of–factly,
No. All you need to do is make a statement clarifying that whatever
you said that day should be viewed as rants in the heat of the moment.
“Then, you’ll visit Maddie, and we’ll all show up in front of the media together as a happy family. Those attacks will cease once
that happens!”

I stared at him in disbelief and disgust. Did he really just suggest all that?
But then again, this was the same man who had demonstrated no sense of shame in his conduct. Why should I be surprised to
hear one more proof from his mouth?
I crossed my arms and glared at him for a long time–yes, it literally took me that long to recover from my shock enough to speak.
“Go fuck yourself, Edward.”
I turned, ready to leave, but he was not done yet. He came after me again.
“It was a sincere suggestion, Tay. You need to trust me. I can settle this,” he insisted. “You’re being rash and emotional! It’s good
to keep your head down, especially when it helps bring back peace!”
I shot him a sideways glance. “Okay. I will livestream my apology if you livestream yourself eating, I don’t know, literal cow dung?
If you agree to that, sure, I’ll agree to your proposal of equal value.”
If he was going to force me into making shitty decisions, then I would force him the same way too.
Edward looked at me with an expression of hurt. “I’m just trying to help, Tay. Why are you so irrational?” Before I could answer
him, someone else did. “Are you really here to help or are you here to gloat?”
Jean!
“Jeannie, why are you here?”
“You told me you had yet to go home after I texted you, right? I have to pass by your company on my way home anyway, so I’m
here to pick you up,” she explained. “By the way, there are still two paparazzi hiding near your car, so I’m driving you home.”
I had been staying at Jean’s place since I had been doxxed. I couldn’t even live in my own house.

Jean sized up Edward as suspicion suddenly dawned on her face. “You regard Maddison as a sister you can’t look away from,
right? But do you know what she might be seeing you as?”
I stared at her, confused. There was subtext in her words, but what?
Edward met her gaze steadily. “Everyone knows she loves e.”
“Ha!” Jean smiled, shaking her head. “Alright. Now I feel bad for you. She’s fooled you too, hasn’t she? And here you think you’re
the most romantic, knightly guy there is.
His expression darkened. “What are you talking about?”
