The Alpha’s Fated Outcast: Rise Of The Moonsinger

Chapter 399

Chapter 339: Breakfast Tensions I

Ramsey

I waited at the foot of the stairs, watching as Lyla descended. One look at her face told me she hadn't slept well despite going to bed on time yesterday. Her eyes were tired, and her movements lacked their usual grace.

"You look tired. Are you alright?" I asked, looking at her with concern. Should I call a healer?"

"No, I'm fine," she replied, yawning. "Just tired. I guess I didn't sleep as much as I wanted."

That surprised me because she had slept so well that she was still asleep when I left the bedroom this morning.

"Do you need to rest more? I can escort you back to the bedroom?"

"No!" she yawned without covering her mouth. "Sorry, dear. Don't worry; I'll be fine, and I'm hungry. In your text, you said it's important we all eat breakfast together this morning."

I nodded and took her hand, guiding her toward the dining room. When we reached the doorway, I felt her freeze beside me. She could see the twenty Alpha Lycans seated at our extended dining table through the transparent dining doors, all in formal attire.

"I'm sorry," I whispered quickly. "I didn't inform you in time. Since you fell asleep last night and missed meeting the Alphas, I had to invite them for breakfast. Is that okay by you?"

Lyla nodded, squeezing my hand. "It's fine. Also, you should have woken me up last night. I swear I didn't want to sleep that deeply. One minute I was resting my eyes, and the next it was morning."

I chuckled. "That's exactly why I let you be. You were sleeping so soundly that I didn't want to disturb you."

I pushed open the dining room door and indicated that Lyla should go in first before coming in after her. The moment we entered, everyone seated at the dining table - The Alpha Lycans, Lenny, Miriam, and Caius- rose to their feet -a sign of respect that surprised me, given their usual arrogance.

"The Lycan Leader and the Moonsinger grace us with their presence," Alpha Winters, the eldest among them, announced. His eyes raked up and down Lyla's form as though he needed to confirm she was the Moonsinger.

Lyla stepped forward confidently despite her fatigue and addressed the room. "Welcome to White Mountain and to White Moon Pack," she started with a small smile. "I hope the journey was good? I apologise for missing our meeting last night. Something came up that needed my attention."

"No apology needed," Alpha Vega said, assessing Lyla with curiosity. "We understand the Moonsinger's duties are demanding, and the Lycan Leader had informed us, too. He said it was a woman's matter. Is it sorted out now?"

"Yes, it is," Lyla turned to her. "It's refreshing to see another woman leading. Werewolves might be late to the game, but we are beginning to see the advantages of letting women lead. It also tells me I am not alone."

Vega beamed, her eyes glistening with pride as she nodded approvingly. I could tell she had taken an instant liking to Lyla.

"You do look like Neriah," Alpha Korin observed. "I could have sworn you were her. You're indeed the reincarnation of our first Moonsinger."

"You flatter me, Alpha," Lyla said with a smile. "Your style is rather impeccable and fresh. I don't think I've ever seen something like this on this side of the ocean. Who makes it for you?"

"Me, of course," Korin said proudly. I could swear his head grew two inches more. "I recently picked up fashion designing as a hobby and..."

"Is it true you transformed over three hundred Ferals back to their human form?" asked Darren bluntly, interrupting Korin. He had a frown on his face.

Lyla turned to him, still wearing a patient smile. "Three Hundred and Fifty Ferals. I don't think I know your name?" she asked, looking to me for help.

"My name is Darren Blackthorne. Alpha Lycan of the Red Sea pack. Ramsey and I go a long way."

"Oh," Lyla chuckled. "You must be 'the Darren'. Ramsey has told me a lot about you."

I didn't tell Lyla anything. I don't think we've ever had the time to talk about my friends or acquaintances from when I was younger. But I loved that she was improvising.

"Did you really do it?" Darren asked, he wasn't interested in small talk.

"Of course I did, and they were three hundred and fifty Ferals."

"Impressive," Alpha Korin murmured. "The last Moonsinger couldn't do that, but he was strong enough to fight off the Ferals and defeat the Dark One. Turns out he truly didn't defeat him. He only locked him like the others have been doing for

years."

"I hope you get him good this time, Moonsinger," Vega said "I want to see you win so much."

"Moonsingers need food to keep their strength," I reminded them, guiding Lyla to her seat beside mine at the head of the table while hoping they would stop their questioning.

As everyone settled, servers brought in the first course-a traditional White Mountain breakfast of herbed eggs and smoked venison. The moment a plate was placed before Lyla, she retched. Her hands flew immediately to cover her

mouth.

The murmuring at the table stopped as everyone turned to look at her. I leaned

towards her immediately.

"Are you alright?" I asked.

"I'm fine," she assured me, though her complexion had paled greatly.

She pushed the plate away. "I apologise, but I won't be eating. I think it's something I ate yesterday," she murmured with a smile to the Alphas."

"Are you sure, Moonsinger?" Alpha Winters inquired with a frown. "You do look unwell. I wanted to bring it to your notice when you walked in, but I didn't want to seem rude."

"Thank you for your concern, Alpha," Lyla smiled at him. "I'm sure it's from something I ate yesterday."

My gaze met Miriam's sitting at the far end of the table, and immediately, she rose from her seat and came towards us. When she reached Lyla, she placed a hand on Lyla's forehead and turned to the table.

"The Moonsinger is burning up a bit," she announced. "I will take her to rest."

"No," Lyla insisted, shaking off her hand on her head. "I'm fine. Instead of food, I'll have my favourite tea. The kitchen would know."

I could see Miriam wanted to argue with her, but because everyone was present, she nodded instead and said, "I'll inform the kitchen."

When she left to inform the kitchen, and since the Alphas were so into etiquette, no one was eating. We were all waiting for Lyla's tea to come-all except Circe, who was taking small bites of food from her plate, humming a strange tune.

We all ignored her.

"You're much more beautiful in person than rumours suggested," Vega started again, beaming a smile at Lyla, who had her hand over her stomach again like

last night. Maybe it was really the food.

What did we eat for dinner yesterday? I wondered.

"You're so kind, Alpha. Thank you." Lyla nodded.

"These rumours also said you have a two-tailed wolf," Darren said suddenly,

stunning me into silence.

Aside from I and Lenny. Miriam and maybe a few people from Lyla's circle, no one knew Lyla had a two-tailed wolf.

I was expecting Lyla to come up with an excuse in that regard, but she nodded.

"Yes," Lyla confirmed. "The rumours were right. I do have a two-tailed wolf."

Everyone in the room seemed to pause as they stared at her, including Darren, who wasn't expecting the truth.

"And you're still alive?" Darren pursed with a smirk. "I thought the White Mountains hated two-tailed wolves? They have a terrible history with it." Visit Novelxo.org to read full content.

"A two-tailed wolf is extremely rare,"

Alpha Winters cut in, trying to douse the rising tension in the room. "In ou region, among the werewolves pack, it's seen as a direct blessing from the Moon Goddess herself." The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!

"You don't have to curry anyone's

"Watch your tongue, Darren," Vega said through gritted teeth. "You never fail to

display how arrogant and totally insane you can be. Be sensible and do this

another time."

I reached for Lyla's hand on her lap, but she shook me off and placed them on

the table, purposely avoiding my touch.

"Tell us," Darren continued, leaning forward. "How does a Moonsinger prepare for battle against the Dark One? Our histories have conflicting accounts."

At this point, Miriam was back with the tea, and Lyla busied herself with sipping

the tea before answering.

"Each Moonsinger faces the Dark One differently. There's no standard preparation."

"But the prophecy-" Alpha Korin began.

"That's enough," I slammed my hand on the table. "I didn't ask My Luna to join us

for breakfast today to be interrogated. Why are you asking her questions to answers you already know?"
